No. of marriages in China in 2024 lowest since late 1970s The number of registered marriages in China dropped 20.5 percent from the previous year to 6,106,000 in 2024, the lowest since comparable data became available in the late 1970s, despite government efforts to encourage marriage and promote childbirth, official data showed. The latest figure is the lowest since 1978 when China saw 5,978,000 marriages. Man gets life term for raping 10 girls A man was sentenced to life in prison by a Japanese court on Tuesday for sexually assaulting 10 elementary school girls between 2016 and 2022. The Osaka District Court ruled that Tomoya Yanagimoto, 28, a former hospital worker, sexually victimized the girls under the threat of killing them and at a time when they had nobody to turn to for help.
