Japanese team launches research to make living on Moon reality A Japanese university and construction company have partnered on research to develop a lunar habitat capable of generating artificial gravity, enabling people to live on the Moon under conditions similar to those on Earth. Kyoto University and Kajima Corp. aim to construct a ground-based prototype of the "Neo Lunar Glass," a paraboloid structure that generates gravity through rotation, by the 2030s. Toho Studios adopts hydrogen-fired power in 1st Japan commercial use Toho Co., the creator and film producer behind the hit "Godzilla" series, has started using hydrogen-fired electricity for its main studio in Tokyo, becoming the first company in Japan to commercially use such power. Jera Co., a joint venture between Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings Inc. and Chubu Electric Power Co., is the green power supplier to Toho Studios, one of the largest film studios in the country. Japan to revise law for emergency animal shootings amid bear attacks The Japanese government plans to revise the law to allow municipalities to authorize "emergency shootings" by hunters when animals enter populated areas, a source close to the matter said Saturday, amid a rise in bear attacks. Japan to resume Osprey flights after suspension over safety concerns Japan's Ground Self-Defense Force will gradually resume operations of its 17 U.S.-made V-22 Ospreys, the Defense Ministry said Saturday, after they were suspended earlier this month due to safety concerns. The suspension of flights came after U.S. forces grounded their Ospreys -- a tilt-rotor military transport and cargo aircraft -- following a recent precautionary landing. Japan brewery looking to launch 100 mil. yen space sake A Japanese sake brewery will attempt to make the world's first outer space sake, creating just one bottle and donating the 100 million yen ($640,000) proceeds from its sale to domestic space development companies. Asahi Shuzo Co. in Yamaguchi Prefecture recently said it plans to ferment rice and other raw materials used in sake making on the International Space Station. South Korean investigators serve 2nd summons for questioning on Yoon South Korea's joint investigation team said Friday it has made a second request for President Yoon Suk Yeol to appear for questioning next week in connection with his short-lived declaration of martial law, after he refused to comply with a similar summons two days earlier. Japan inspects U.S. base in Tokyo over possible PFAS chemical leak The Japanese government said Friday that it has conducted an on-site inspection of the U.S. Yokota Air Base in western Tokyo over the possible leak of so-called PFAS chemicals that may have harmful effects on human health. Officials from the defense, foreign and environment ministries, the Tokyo metropolitan government as well as local municipalities entered the base in the morning to inspect a firefighting training area where an extinguishing agent containing PFAS is believed to have been used, according to the Japanese Defense Ministry. Japan inflation accelerates in Nov. on reduced energy subsidies Japan's core consumer prices in November rose 2.7 percent from a year earlier, with the pace of increase expanding for the first time in three months, amid reduced government subsidies for utility bills and higher rice prices, the internal affairs ministry said Friday. The climb in the nationwide core consumer price index, excluding volatile fresh food, followed a 2.3 percent gain in October and a 2.4 percent rise in September.
