Kawasaki Heavy began false deals 40 years ago over SDF scandal Japan's Defense Ministry said Friday that its major contractor Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd. began fictitious transactions with its subcontractors at least 40 years ago, with such fraudulent practices in six years through March worth about 1.7 billion yen ($11 million). Of those, around 600 million yen was pooled as slush funds by Kawasaki Heavy, which regularly receives submarine maintenance and repair orders from the Maritime Self-Defense Force, according to the ministry's interim report on its investigation into the scandal. South Korea votes to impeach Acting President Han, as Yoon faces trial South Korea's parliament voted on Friday to pass an impeachment motion against Acting President and Prime Minister Han Duck Soo, deepening the turmoil in the country where already-impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol awaits a trial that will decide his political fate. Han's suspension from his duties elevated Deputy Prime Minister Choi Sang Mok to become South Korea's second acting president in less than two weeks.
