Retrial for man in 1986 murder case likely to result in acquittal The retrial of a man who served a seven-year sentence for the 1986 murder of a junior high school girl in central Japan is expected to result in an acquittal as prosecutors will not present new evidence, his defense team said Wednesday. The prosecutors disclosed their stance during a meeting with judges and the lawyers for Shoshi Maekawa, 59, at the Kanazawa branch of the Nagoya High Court, his defense team said. A-bomb survivors testify, push for nuke abolition at Nobel forum Survivors of the 1945 U.S. bomb attacks on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki spoke on Wednesday of their experiences and called for nuclear abolition at the Nobel Peace Prize Forum in Oslo, a day after Nihon Hidankyo, Japan's leading group of atomic bomb survivors, received the honor. South Korea President Yoon could face arrest: investigation body The chief of South Korea's corruption investigation body said Wednesday his office will seek to detain or arrest President Yoon Suk Yeol if conditions are met, as the probe continues into his short-lived declaration of martial law last week that has sparked fury in the country.
