Japan's ispace prepares for second private moon landing attempt - Nikkei Asia TSUKUBA, Japan -- Japanese lunar transportation startup ispace will make a renewed attempt to have its probe land on the moon and become, if successful, the first private company to do so in Asia."We have been working hard to improve the issues we have identified, and we have never stopped moving forward," ispace CEO Takeshi Hakamada said during a news conference on Thursday in Tsukuba, a city northeast of Tokyo and home to scientific research centers.

Quad plans joint patrols in Indo-Pacific to counter illegal fishing Japan, the United States, Australia and India plan to launch joint patrols to monitor vessels in the Indo-Pacific, diplomatic sources said Sunday, in the latest effort by the Quad group to counter illegal fishing in waters where China's influence is growing. The plan involving the four countries' coast guards is expected to be included in a joint statement to be issued at a Quad summit next Saturday in the United States, along with projects to improve regional telecommunications and collaborate on steps to tackle cancer, according to the sources. Philippines withdraws ship from disputed area of South China Sea The Philippines withdrew a coast guard ship previously anchored in a disputed shoal in the South China Sea, officials said on Sunday, following a diplomatic standoff over the area also claimed by China. The 97-meter Teresa Magbanua, which is one of the Philippines' two largest coast guard ships acquired from Japan, had sailed back to port after five months of patrolling around Sabina, a shoal within the Philippine exclusive economic zone where China is accused of carrying out illegal reclamation activities.
