PlayStation 5 Pro with AI-based upscaler to be launched Nov. 7 - Nikkei Asia PALO ALTO, California/TOKYO -- Sony Interactive Entertainment announced Wednesday that on Nov. 7 it will launch the PlayStation 5 Pro, the premium version of the PlayStation 5 game console, equipped with artificial intelligence that creates higher-quality visuals to enhance the gaming experience."We have incorporated the most advanced technology to make the screen run as smoothly as gamers demand," Hideaki Nishino, the chief executive officer of SIE's platform business group, told Nikkei. In June, SIE formed a dual-headed corporate structure, led by Nishino for the PlayStation console business and another CEO for game software.

Material that extends EV battery life set for higher output in Japan - Nikkei Asia OSAKA -- Japanese chemical group Nippon Shokubai will build a 37.5 billion yen ($263 million) plant to produce a material that can lengthen the life of an electric vehicle battery by around 60%, Nikkei has learned.The plant will produce lithium bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide (LiFSI), a newer type of lithium-ion battery electrolyte. Production is expected to begin in 2028.

China to make military training mandatory at universities - Nikkei Asia BEIJING -- China is moving forward with legislation to require basic military training for high school and university students, part of a push under Chinese President Xi Jinping to place a greater emphasis on national security in education.Lawmakers will review a draft amendment to the National Defense Education Law at a meeting of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, China's top legislature, through Friday. The bill underwent a first reading in April, and could be passed by the end of the year.
