Japanese judge elected chief of International Court of Justice The International Court of Justice said Monday it has elected its judge from Japan as chief of The Hague-based tribunal following the resignation of Nawaf Salam in January. Yuji Iwasawa, who began working as an ICJ judge in June 2018, will serve as president through Feb. 5, 2027, taking over the term of Lebanon's Salam, who left the post after being appointed his country's next prime minister by President Joseph Aoun. Accused Highland Park shooter pleads guilty The accused gunman Robert Crimo III entered a guilty plea just before his trial was slated to begin today. Crimo faces 69 counts of murder from the July 2022 mass shooting in Highland Park, Illinois. He is set to be sentenced on April 23rd and faces life without parole. Wildfire state of emergency in Carolinas South Carolina governor declared a state of emergency Sunday as wildfires in the Carolinas and Georgia scorched thousands of acres and forced people to flee their homes. At one point, more than 175 fires were burning in South Carolina, the governor's office said Sunday, fueled by unusually dry conditions and gusty winds.
