BOJ holds rates steady amid political uncertainty in Japan, U.S. The Bank of Japan kept its policy interest rate unchanged at around 0.25 percent as widely expected at the end of a two-day meeting Thursday, amid political uncertainty following the loss by the Japanese ruling parties of their majority in the recent general election and ahead of the U.S. presidential election next week. The central bank needs to "pay due attention to the future course of overseas economies, particularly the U.S. economy, and developments in financial and capital markets," it said in a report, while adding that it will raise rates further if the economy and prices move in line with its expectations.
