Chairman of Yaskawa Electric Ogasawara wins prize for quality control - Nikkei Asia TOKYO -- The Union of Japanese Scientists and Engineers announced Oct. 1 the winners of the fiscal 2024 Deming Prize, an award for companies and individuals who make outstanding achievements in the research of total quality management (TQM) and other fields. The Deming Prize for individuals was awarded to Hiroshi Ogasawara, chairman of Yaskawa Electric. Ogasawara was praised for promoting strong leadership and global quality management, and for quadrupling the company's market capitalization during his seven years as company president.The three recipients of the Deming Distinguished Practice Award, which is given to individuals who have made distinctive achievements in the research and spread of TQM, were Hisakazu Shindo, professor emeritus at the University of Yamanashi; Prem Motwani, former professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University in India; and Yoshiro Mitsufuji, a contract counselor for the Union of Japanese Scientists and Engineers.

Japan SDF planes head for possible Lebanon evacuation mission Two Air Self-Defense Force airplanes left Japan on Thursday in preparation for the possible evacuation of Japanese citizens from Lebanon, where tensions are mounting between Israel and the Iranian-backed militant group Hezbollah. Two C-2 transport airplanes departed from Miho Air Base in the western prefecture of Tottori for Jordan and Greece to stand by, the Defense Ministry said. Despite the videos being falsified, they have racked up millions of engagements -- likes, reposts and shares -- on social media. Although these posts primarily target Chinese-speaking audiences, experts warn of potential future influence on Japanese public opinion.
