Japan's Mitsubishi to secure new Malaysia LNG deals - Nikkei Asia TOKYO -- Japanese trading house Mitsubishi Corp. will deepen its presence in Malaysian liquefied natural gas projects by nearly 60% in terms of production capacity, a move that will help Japan diversify its energy sources, Nikkei has learned.Mitsubishi by the end of fiscal 2024 will acquire a 10% interest for roughly 10 years in a natural gas liquefaction plant in Sarawak, operated by Malaysian state energy group Petronas. Mitsubishi previously held a 4% stake in the project before the contract ended in fiscal 2022.

Japan's Mitsubishi Pencil draws up plans to expand in India - Nikkei Asia TOKYO -- Japan's Mitsubishi Pencil on Thursday said it will set up a joint venture in India in January to tap growing demand for writing tools in the country.Mitsubishi Pencil will take a 51% stake in the company -- called Unilinc -- while local partner Linc will take the remaining 49%. The venture will build a new factory in India as early as 2025, and will be responsible for distributing products locally.

Canon ships first next-gen chipmaking equipment to U.S. consortium - Nikkei Asia TOKYO -- Canon said Thursday it is delivering the first unit of its next-generation lithography equipment to a U.S. group developing advanced semiconductors, introducing a new production technology that could cut costs as well as electricity usage.The nanoimprint lithography machine is going to the Texas Institute for Electronics, a consortium supported by the University of Texas at Austin that includes Intel and other chip companies as well as public-sector and academic organizations. The equipment will be used by chipmakers for research and development.
