In Japan, some cities do - Nikkei Asia TOKYO -- Dozens of Japanese cities are selling metals from the ashes of cremated remains, a Nikkei survey finds, amid growing calls to put rules in place for the process.Most of the more than 1.5 million people who die in Japan each year are cremated. But while the law does cover larger bone fragments -- typically claimed by families -- the handling of the leftover ashes and who is entitled to them are still legal gray areas.

Japan researchers identify fat-burning proteins A Japanese research team has found protein variants that increase during exercise and help burn fat, possibly opening a path to developing a new drug that helps people lose weight without dieting. The team's findings, published in the European scientific journal Molecular Metabolism, showed that different versions of the PGC-1a protein are produced in skeletal muscle when people exercise, and the larger the increase, the more energy people spend.
