"Shogun" stars Sanada, Sawai win 1st lead actor Emmys for Japan Hiroyuki Sanada on Sunday won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his starring role in the U.S. television series "Shogun" set in feudal Japan, while his co-star Anna Sawai won best lead actress to make the pair the first Japanese to win the awards. With the program itself winning the outstanding drama award as well as outstanding directing at the 76th Emmy Awards, "Shogun" collected a total of 18 awards, the most Emmys won for a single season of a TV series. Sushi dishes to ride on 135-meter conveyor belt at 2025 Osaka Expo Major sushi restaurant chain operator Kura Sushi Inc. will offer sushi dishes as well as cuisines of other countries on a 135-meter-long conveyor belt at the 2025 World Expo venue in Osaka. The conveyor belt will be the company's longest, surpassing the 123-meter belt at its global flagship store in Tokyo's Ginza district, according to the company. More international students work in Japan, but face barriers - Nikkei Asia TOKYO -- Rie Sano, a career consultant at the University of Tokyo, said none of the roughly 50 Japanese companies she approached to take part in English-language career sessions agreed to join the seminars for international students in March and September."Japanese companies are not serious about hiring foreign students," said Sano, representing Japan's top university. "They are only saying that they are open to considering it, but not actively."

German Navy says it exercised right to pass through Taiwan Strait - Nikkei Asia MANILA -- The German Navy says it was exercising its right to freedom of navigation when it passed through the Taiwan Strait last week, answering China's condemnation of the journey.Two German naval ships passed through the strait on Friday as part of the navy's Indo-Pacific activity.
