Security issues "separate" from U.S. tariffs: Japan defense minister Defense Minister Gen Nakatani said Friday security matters with the United States are "separate issues" from President Donald Trump's higher tariffs, amid concerns that Japan's defense costs may be part of future trade negotiations. Nakatani also said at a press conference he has no plans to visit the United States to attend the tariff talks, following the first round on Wednesday in Washington between Japanese economic revitalization minister Ryosei Akazawa and U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. Climbers of Mt. Fuji to be required to wear proper clothing People planning to visit Mt. Fuji will be required to wear appropriate climbing gear, the local government hosting the mountain's most popular trail said, as it begins accepting reservations next week. As part of the online reservation process set to begin Thursday, visitors must agree to terms including wearing warm clothing and appropriate footwear, Yamanashi Prefecture said, adding that access to the Yoshida Trail may be denied for noncompliance.
