Japan asks U.S. to drop reciprocal tariffs, calls them regrettable Japan has conveyed its "extreme regret" over the reciprocal tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump, urging Washington to retract them, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi said Wednesday. 24% of Japan traffic lights aging, further raising safety fears Around 24 percent of Japan's traffic lights in fiscal 2023 were recognized as being past their replacement date, the National Police Agency said Wednesday, raising fears of serious accidents from signals malfunctioning or collapsing onto the road. The life span of the controllers is generally 19 years and police data showed that in fiscal 2023, 49,684 traffic lights, or 24.3 percent of the total, were past the replacement threshold. "Flying car" makes demo flight at World Expo venue before opening A Japanese startup conducted a demonstration flight of its "flying car" on Wednesday in front of members of the press at the venue of the 2025 World Exposition in Osaka ahead of the opening of the global event.
