Paper crane by young A-bomb victim displayed in U.S. 9/11 exhibit A paper crane folded by a Japanese girl who died after the U.S. atomic bombing of Hiroshima in 1945 has been put on display at the New York State Museum for an exhibit to commemorate the 23rd anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Mother given 10 yrs for child abuse resulting in death of 6-yr-old A Japanese court on Wednesday sentenced a 36-year-old woman to 10 years in prison for abuse that resulted in her 6-year-old daughter's death in Okayama, western Japan, in 2022. Aya Nishida, in collusion with her 41-year-old boyfriend, made her daughter Mao stand naked in a pot for hours and forced her to vomit by putting her hands and fingers in her mouth in September 2021, according to the indictment. Australian miners rally as China's CATL 'adjusts' lithium output - Nikkei Asia SYDNEY -- Shares in Australia's lithium producers surged on Wednesday following reports battery giant CATL is suspending operations at a major mine in China, potentially buoying prices for the metal which have long been pressured by oversupply.Pilbara Minerals stock, which has dropped 32% since the beginning of the year, ended the day 13% higher, while Mineral Resources, down 50% year-to-date, rose almost 16%. Liontown, which began production this year, was up 13%.

Japan's July GDP grew 0.4% on solid exports: JCER - Nikkei Asia TOKYO -- Japan's economy expanded an annualized 0.4% in July from the previous month, boosted by increased exports, according to an estimate released by the Japan Center for Economic Research on Wednesday.The 2.6% rise in overseas shipments was driven by both goods and services, according to JCER. Exports to the EU increased by 10.4%, while those to other parts of Asia, excluding China, rose 5.5%.
