Japan family registry to OK listing of Taiwan as place of origin The Justice Ministry said Monday it will allow Taiwanese who marry a Japanese to list the individual's place of origin as Taiwan, instead of China, in Japan's family registry system, a move that has been welcomed by the self-ruled island but has triggered opposition from Beijing. When a Japanese marries a foreigner, the family register currently records the spouse's nationality along with his or her name and other information. Myanmar ethnic force says thousands of foreigners work for scammers A leader of a Myanmar ethnic armed force with ties to the junta said Monday that thousands of foreigners, including Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese and Thais, are being forced to work for scammers based in border areas under its control. Speaking to Kyodo News and some Thai and Myanmar media in Myawaddy at the border with Thailand, Saw Chit Thu of the Karen Border Guard Force, or BGF, said it intends to transfer a group of Chinese people it has rescued to China via Thailand later this week.
