210 hacks made on JAXA, other Japan targets by China group since 2019 The Chinese hacker group "MirrorFace" carried out 210 cyberattacks from 2019 to 2024 on Japanese organizations with the aim of obtaining information related the country's national security and advanced technology, Japan's National Police Agency said Wednesday. The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, which disclosed in 2023 that it had suffered a data breach as the result of a cyberattack, was among the organizations targeted by the group, according to a source close to the matter. Kyoto eyes raising city lodging tax to up to 10,000 yen per night Kyoto municipal authorities plan to raise the lodging tax for hotels and other accommodation to a maximum 10,000 yen ($63) per person per night from the current 1,000 yen limit, as the city is struggling with overtourism, a source familiar with the matter said Wednesday.
