29.11.2024 8:45Social media now bears responsibility to protect children: Australian PM Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said Friday that social media platforms now have a responsibility to ensure the safety of children, after the country's parliament passed a world-first bill banning children under 16 from the services.
The legislation will require social media companies to "take reasonable steps" to prevent those under 16 from creating or holding an account on platforms such as TikTok, Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, Reddit and X, or face fines of up to AU$49.5 million ($32 million).
