China factory activity contracts for fifth straight month in September - Nikkei Asia HONG KONG -- China's manufacturing activity shrank for a fifth consecutive month in September, but policymakers are hoping to turn things around with a string of stimulus measures announced last week.The country's benchmark purchasing managers' index came in at 49.8 for the month, the National Bureau of Statistics announced Monday.
