China local finance chief's killing sparks shock and speculation - Nikkei Asia HONG KONG -- The killing of a key financial official in the central Chinese province of Hunan has triggered a flurry of speculation in the country's media and online platforms.Liu Wenjie, who headed the budget department and financial supervision bureau in Hunan, was killed at the official residence of the local finance bureau Thursday morning. Two male suspects, aged 35 and 31 and both surnamed Jiang, also died by jumping from an upper floor of the building, according to a statement from local police. The authorities said they are investigating.

BOJ stands pat amid volatile markets - Nikkei Asia TOKYO -- The Bank of Japan decided to keep its policy rate unchanged on Friday amid continued volatility in the financial markets following a rate hike after the central bank's last meeting.The BOJ kept the uncollateralized overnight call rate at 0.25%. The decision to leave the rate unchanged was widely expected. A poll of 27 BOJ watchers conducted by Nikkei affiliate QUICK from Sept. 9 to 11 found that none predicted a policy change in September. Most saw the next rate hike coming in December or January.
