Japan univ. to set up new "dinosaur department" as popularity grows A university in western Japan will establish a department specializing in dinosaur studies beginning next April as the field grows in popularity. The Okayama University of Science already offers a course on dinosaurs, but plans to increase the number of lectures, opportunities for field work, and professors with the new department, as well as widening research to include areas such as biosciences in addition to geology and paleontology. China's restaurants battle for solo diners, from pizzas to hot pots - Nikkei Asia SHENZHEN -- A pizza is typically shared by families or friends, but a new Pizza Hut store in China's southern tech hub of Shenzhen aims to change that perception as it grapples with the country's demographics.One of the main offerings on the menu of Pizza Hut Wow -- a new format that operator Yum China launched in May -- is a cream cheese pizza that is less than half the size, in grams, of a pepperoni pie at the brand's regular locations. It is also a fraction of the price, at just 19 yuan ($2.70). The small serving leaves room for customers to try out other dishes -- baked escargot, matcha cake, toast pudding -- even if they are dining alone.

"Shogun" stars Sanada, Sawai win 1st lead actor Emmys for Japan Hiroyuki Sanada on Sunday won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his starring role in the U.S. television series "Shogun" set in feudal Japan, while his co-star Anna Sawai won best lead actress to make the pair the first Japanese to win the awards. With the program itself winning the outstanding drama award as well as outstanding directing at the 76th Emmy Awards, "Shogun" collected a total of 18 awards, the most Emmys won for a single season of a TV series. Sushi dishes to ride on 135-meter conveyor belt at 2025 Osaka Expo Major sushi restaurant chain operator Kura Sushi Inc. will offer sushi dishes as well as cuisines of other countries on a 135-meter-long conveyor belt at the 2025 World Expo venue in Osaka. The conveyor belt will be the company's longest, surpassing the 123-meter belt at its global flagship store in Tokyo's Ginza district, according to the company. More international students work in Japan, but face barriers - Nikkei Asia TOKYO -- Rie Sano, a career consultant at the University of Tokyo, said none of the roughly 50 Japanese companies she approached to take part in English-language career sessions agreed to join the seminars for international students in March and September."Japanese companies are not serious about hiring foreign students," said Sano, representing Japan's top university. "They are only saying that they are open to considering it, but not actively."
