Nippon Steel says not told of move to block U.S. Steel buyout - Nikkei Asia TOKYO -- Nippon Steel said in a note Thursday that it is aware of media reports that U.S. President Joe Biden is preparing to block the proposed purchase of U. S. Steel, but has not received any official updates on the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) review process."Since the outset of the regulatory review process, we have been clear with the administration that we do not believe this transaction creates any national security concerns," the company said. "Nippon Steel strongly believes that the U. S. government should appropriately handle procedures on this matter in accordance with the law."

Japanese man held in Belarus on spying allegations: local broadcaster A Belarusian state-run television channel broadcast a video Wednesday in which it said a "Japanese intelligence operative" has been taken into custody by authorities in the Eastern European country. It broadcast a teaser saying it will air a special program about the man on Thursday, with the video showing him identifying himself as Masatoshi Nakanishi and saying in Russian, "My activities may have been a danger to Belarus."
