Freight train derails in north Japan, disrupts services A freight train derailed in Japan's northernmost prefecture of Hokkaido on Saturday, disrupting some passenger and commercial railway services, its operator said. Five of the train's 20 freight cars came off the tracks while traveling between stations in a town near Hakodate, a southern city in the prefecture. The driver was uninjured, JR Freight said. Football: New owner Red Bull signals big plans for J3 winners Omiya J-League third-division champions Omiya Ardija are set to undergo a rebranding following their purchase by Austrian energy drink company Red Bull GmbH, which has outlined ambitious plans for the Saitama-based club. Red Bull, which also owns clubs in Germany, Austria, Brazil and the United States, in August became the first outright foreign owner of a J-League club since the 2020 removal of a rule stipulating the majority of shares be held by a domestic corporation. Figure skating: Kagiyama, Yoshida lead after Finlandia Trophy SP Japan's Yuma Kagiyama led after the men's short program and Hana Yoshida after the women's at the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating's Finlandia Trophy on Friday, the fifth event on the circuit this season. On the back of his win at the NHK Trophy last weekend in Tokyo, Kagiyama had a flawless performance and took a sizable lead at Helsinki Ice Hall with 103.97 points after landing both his opening quadruple salchow and quad-triple toeloop combination. Toyota aims for hydrogen-electric hybrid van public road test in 2025 Toyota Motor Corp. said Saturday it plans to begin public road tests of a commercial van in Australia next spring, aiming to roll out what could be the world's first vehicle powered by both a hydrogen engine and an electric motor. The hydrogen-electric hybrid HiAce van was unveiled to the media the same day, with its driving range extended by 20 percent to 250 kilometers compared with when it runs only on hydrogen, the carmaker said.
