Man fatally slashes 18-yr-old female employee at bar An 18-year-old working at a "girls' bar" in Tokyo where young women serve drinks was fatally slashed early Sunday by a male customer with a knife, police said. The customer, identified as Hiroyuki Chigira, 49, who lives in Gunma Prefecture, allegedly slashed the female worker, Yuna Tanisawa, around her neck at around 5:40 a.m. in the bar located in the bustling area of Tokyo's Shimbashi district. Figure skating: Kaori Sakamoto leads Japanese podium sweep at Skate Canada Three-time reigning world champion Kaori Sakamoto earned her seventh career Grand Prix victory as Japanese figure skaters swept the podium at Skate Canada International on Saturday. The 24-year-old Sakamoto scored 126.24 points in the free skate to bring her total to 201.21 points, 9.05 ahead of runner-up Rino Matsuike, who earned the highest free skate score of 139.85 after placing 10th in the short program. California baseball event revives Japanese American wartime history A baseball event featuring two amateur games was held Saturday at the site of a World War II-era incarceration camp in California to increase awareness of the lives of Japanese Americans who were confined in the facility more than 80 years ago. Four teams from Japanese American baseball leagues in the state participated in the games at the former Manzanar camp in a desert area near the Nevada border, playing on a field restored to its wartime condition under a project led by the U.S. National Park Service.
