Japan megabanks, DBJ to invest up to $175m in Rapidus - Nikkei Asia TOKYO -- Japan's three megabanks plan to invest up to 5 billion yen ($35 million) each in Japanese chipmaker Rapidus, which aims to mass-produce cutting-edge semiconductors, Nikkei has learned.The government-backed Development Bank of Japan will also contribute 10 billion yen, bringing the major banks' total capital contribution to 25 billion yen ($175 million). The aim is to secure the funds needed for investment, and to stabilize cash flows ahead of the start of mass production in 2027.

Switch error caused shinkansen trains to uncouple while in motion The detachment of two linked Shinkansen trains while traveling at high speed last week was likely due to a malfunction in a coupling switch, with metal fragments found behind it possibly playing a role, railway operator JR East said Thursday. The Komachi and Hayabusa high-speed trains on the Tohoku Shinkansen Line uncoupled on Sept. 19 between Furukawa and Sendai stations in Miyagi Prefecture, northeastern Japan.
