M7.7 quake strikes Myanmar, leaving 144 dead, over 700 injured A magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck central Myanmar on Friday, killing 144 people and injuring more than 700 others, the junta said, with tremors reaching as far as neighboring Thailand and China. The junta, embroiled in a civil war, has declared a state of emergency in response to the quake, Mizzima News Media reported.
