Japan trade minister to seek exemption from U.S. steel tariffs Japanese Economy, Trade and Industry Minister Yoji Muto met Tuesday with steel and aluminum industry leaders to discuss higher tariffs threatened by U.S. President Donald Trump as he seeks to request an exemption for Japan. "Products exported from Japan to the United States are made with Japan's advanced technological capabilities, so they are important for the U.S. industry and economy," Muto said at the meeting, which was open to the press and attended by executives, including Japan Iron and Steel Federation Chairman and Nippon Steel Corp. Diet panel OKs regulating election posters after chaos in Tokyo race A Japanese lower house panel on Tuesday approved a bill regulating the standards for electoral campaign posters, following the chaos caused in last year's Tokyo gubernatorial race over the display of posters.
