Asian Games: Sakamoto settles for 2nd behind Kim in figure skating Reigning world figure skating champion Kaori Sakamoto of Japan failed to protect her short program lead and settled for the silver medal at the Asian Winter Games on Thursday. Taiwan department store gas blast leaves 4 dead, 26 injured A gas explosion occurred Thursday morning at a department store in central Taiwan, leaving four people dead and 26 others injured, local authorities said, with renovation work inside the building cited as a potential cause of the blast. The explosion happened on the 12th floor of the 14-story Shin Kong Mitsukoshi outlet in Taichung. Among the casualties, two of the dead and five of the injured were visitors from Macao, they said. Honda, Nissan merger talks collapse over management structure Honda Motor Co. and Nissan Motor Co. said Thursday they had scrapped a historic realignment plan to merge into what would have become the world's third-biggest auto group by volume due to disagreements over the management structure.
