China vows $50 bil. aid for Africa, seeks unity with Global South Chinese President Xi Jinping pledged Thursday that his country will deliver about $50 billion of financial support to Africa over the next three years and jointly pursue the modernization of developing and emerging countries collectively dubbed the Global South. In his keynote speech at the opening ceremony of a China-Africa summit at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, Xi proposed elevating relations between China and all African nations that have diplomatic ties with the Asian powerhouse to strategic ones and building a "community with a shared future for the new era." Detained Japanese man under espionage probe in Belarus: state TV A Belarusian state-run broadcaster said Thursday that a Japanese man has been taken into custody and is under investigation by authorities in the Eastern European country on suspicion of involvement in espionage. During the program titled "The Failure of a Samurai from Tokyo," a national security official said that Masatoshi Nakanishi has been the subject of a probe over a spying allegation, and that he admitted details about his wrongdoings.
