School experience helping tourists scrub up on Japanese education Japan's education system is known for producing well-behaved and respectful children. Now tourists have a chance to dip their toe into the country's culture by taking part in an experience that puts them in the shoes of a Japanese school kid. Visitors get a taste of a system seen as a microcosm of Japanese society and a building block of national identity at a once abandoned junior high school near Tokyo thanks to the "Kimi no Koko" experience, which translates as "Your High School." Tennis: Big-serving Rei Sakamoto living up to billing as top prospect Up-and-coming tennis player Rei Sakamoto capped an impressive year with his first ATP Challenger Tour title only three months after turning pro. Japan PM noncommittal over nuke pact in meeting with Nobel-winning Hidankyo Nihon Hidankyo, the Japanese atomic bomb survivors' group that won last year's Nobel Peace Prize, urged the government on Wednesday to participate as an observer at a convention of signatories to a U.N. nuclear weapons ban treaty, but said Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba remained noncommittal during a meeting in Tokyo. The group's co-chair Terumi Tanaka said the roughly 30-minute sit-down with the prime minister, held to congratulate the group on the prize, "did not yield results" on the issue. 210 hacks made on JAXA, other Japan targets by China group since 2019 The Chinese hacker group "MirrorFace" carried out 210 cyberattacks from 2019 to 2024 on Japanese organizations with the aim of obtaining information related the country's national security and advanced technology, Japan's National Police Agency said Wednesday. The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, which disclosed in 2023 that it had suffered a data breach as the result of a cyberattack, was among the organizations targeted by the group, according to a source close to the matter. Japan braces for heavy snow, possible traffic disruption Japan's weather agency and land ministry on Wednesday warned of heavy snowfall in regions along the Sea of Japan coast on the country's main island of Honshu and urged residents to avoid nonessential outings due to potential disruptions to road and rail traffic.
