TSMC aims to ready next-gen silicon photonics for AI in 5 years - Nikkei Asia TAIPEI -- Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. and top global chip designers and suppliers are ramping up development of next-generation silicon photonic solutions, aiming to have the technology ready for production in the next three to five years. Their efforts come amid an industrywide push to tackle the massive energy and faster data transmission speeds needed by the AI computing boom. Silicon photonics, which combines silicon chips with optic technology, promises improvements on both these fronts.

Japan no longer iPhone display supplier as Apple ends LCD use - Nikkei Asia TOKYO -- Apple will use organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays in all iPhone models sold next year and afterward, switching its lower-priced iPhone SE models to OLED screens from liquid crystal displays (LCDs), Nikkei has learned.The move will exclude two Japanese panel suppliers, Japan Display (JDI) and Sharp, from the U.S. company's handset business.

Japan mulls preclearance for South Koreans for speedy immigration check Japan is considering introducing a system to conduct immigration screening before flight departures for visitors from South Korea, sources familiar with the bilateral ties said Tuesday.
