Japan A-bomb paintings to be exhibited in Australia A series of Japanese paintings mainly depicting the misery of the 1945 atomic bombing of Hiroshima will be displayed at a gallery in Australia this year, the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. The set of 15 works titled "The Hiroshima Panels" by the late artists Iri and Toshi Maruki was produced between 1950 and 1982 based on the couple's experience of seeing Hiroshima just days after the Aug. 6, 1945, bombing. Record number of Japan ramen eateries went bankrupt in 2024 A record number of ramen noodle eatery operators in Japan went out of business in 2024, according to a research firm, as the food's reputation for affordability limits room to raise prices amid soaring ingredient and utility costs. Also hit by climbing personnel expenses due to labor shortages, insolvencies among ramen business operators resulting in liabilities of at least 10 million yen ($63,000) in 2024 jumped over 30 percent to 72, up from 53 in 2023, Teikoku Databank Ltd. said. Japan Foreign Minister Iwaya arranging to attend Trump inauguration Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya is arranging to attend the inauguration of Donald Trump as U.S. president on Jan. 20, a government source said Friday, as the Asian nation rushes to build ties with the incoming administration in its most important ally. The trip is apparently intended to lay the groundwork for talks between Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and Trump after the latter is sworn in for the second time as U.S. leader.
