Miyazaki Airport resumes operations after WWII bomb scare Miyazaki Airport in southwestern Japan on Sunday resumed operations after determining that a magnetic reaction possibly indicating the presence of an unexploded World War II bomb around a taxiway was caused instead by a large amount of iron sand. Japan Airlines canceled some of its flights Saturday night ahead of work to excavate the taxiway early Sunday. A magnetic survey had appeared to find an object 1.6 meters below the ground near the location where a wartime bomb had exploded on Oct. 2. Read full story here

Basketball: Japan guard Kawamura signs two-way contract with Memphis Guard Yuki Kawamura signed a two-way contract with the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday, becoming the first Japanese player from the country's B-League with a chance to make his National Basketball Association debut in the United States. Memphis will begin the new season Wednesday against the Utah Jazz and the 23-year-old is in line to become the fourth Japanese player to make an NBA debut after Yuta Tabuse in 2004 with the Phoenix Suns, Yuta Watanabe in 2018 with Memphis, a two-way contract at the time, and Rui Hachimura in 2019 with the Washington Wizards.
