Japan inflation accelerates in Nov. on reduced energy subsidies Japan's core consumer prices in November rose 2.7 percent from a year earlier, with the pace of increase expanding for the first time in three months, amid reduced government subsidies for utility bills and higher rice prices, the internal affairs ministry said Friday. The climb in the nationwide core consumer price index, excluding volatile fresh food, followed a 2.3 percent gain in October and a 2.4 percent rise in September. Japan to decide future of soil removed in Fukushima cleanup by spring The Japanese government said Friday it will aim to decide by next spring on a plan for how to recycle or dispose of soil in Fukushima Prefecture that was removed during the cleanup following the 2011 nuclear disaster. Russia has occupied about 20 percent of Ukraine's territory, with their militaries engaging in fierce combat along front lines stretching for some 1,000 kilometers. Japan inspects U.S. base in Tokyo over possible PFAS chemical leak The Japanese government said Friday that it has conducted an on-site inspection of the U.S. Yokota Air Base in western Tokyo over the possible leak of so-called PFAS chemicals that may have harmful effects on human health. Officials from the defense, foreign and environment ministries, the Tokyo metropolitan government as well as local municipalities entered the base in the morning to inspect a firefighting training area where an extinguishing agent containing PFAS is believed to have been used, according to the Japanese Defense Ministry. South Korean investigators serve 2nd summons for questioning on Yoon South Korea's joint investigation team said Friday it has made a second request for President Yoon Suk Yeol to appear for questioning next week in connection with his short-lived declaration of martial law, after he refused to comply with a similar summons two days earlier. The Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials, one of the organizations forming the investigation team, plans to consider filing for a court warrant to detain Yoon for up to 48 hours if he continues to ignore its requests without valid grounds, according to Yonhap News Agency.
