Son of Unification Church members seeks name change citing distress A man whose parents are Unification Church members has filed a petition with a Tokyo court to change his legal name, saying he has suffered an "unbearable pain" in living under it. The man in his 30s, who goes by the alias Yukihiko Nonami, said his given name was chosen based on the church's teachings and his family name is the same as his parents, who are long-established Unification Church members who were married in one of the group's infamous mass weddings. A-bomb survivor experiences on display in Oslo after Nobel prize win An exhibition on Nihon Hidankyo, Japan's leading group of atomic bomb survivors that won this year's Nobel Peace Prize, has opened in Oslo, charting the organization's history and activism and showcasing the survivors' experiences. The event at the Nobel Peace Center, which runs through next November, features around 100 items, including pictures of Hiroshima and Nagasaki after the 1945 U.S. atomic bombings and portraits of hibakusha, or atomic bomb survivors. Kanji meaning "gold" picked to mark 2024 amid Olympic haul, scandals The kanji for "kin" or "kane," meaning gold or money, was picked as the single most representative Chinese character corresponding to the social mood in Japan this year, a Kyoto-based organization said Thursday.
