Facebook owner Meta faces $2.8 million lawsuits in Japan over fake ads Facebook and Instagram owner Meta Platforms Inc. faced fresh lawsuits in Japan on Tuesday over advertisements that fraudulently solicited investments with fake celebrity endorsements, with 30 plaintiffs seeking a total of 435 million yen ($2.8 million) in damages. The U.S. technology giant and its Japanese arm failed to do enough to prevent the scams, according to the plaintiffs' complaint. 4 arrested over death of man found naked in Hokkaido park Two young women and two males were arrested over the death of a university student found in a Hokkaido park collapsed and naked with multiple wounds to his face and body, police said Tuesday. The victim, found by a resident lying on a pathway in the park in Ebetsu in Japan's northernmost prefecture Saturday morning, was identified as 20-year-old Tomoya Hase. A legal autopsy indicated his cause of death as posttraumatic shock. Read full story here

Kyoto theater shows charms of Kabuki for global audiences Minamiza Theatre in Kyoto has launched an initiative to encourage more foreign people to watch Kabuki in the midst of a surge in inbound tourism in the ancient Japanese capital and elsewhere in the country. The prestigious theater will stage performances over nine days from Nov. 2, each of which includes a session allowing the audience to hear in detail about the charms of Kabuki, an over 400-year-old traditional Japanese performing art, by two actors in English.
