However, political developments in neighboring nations, along with some misguided diplomacy from New Delhi, are undermining the leader's efforts.In Sri Lanka, antiestablishment lawmaker Anura Kumara Dissanayake won the presidential election on Sept. 21. However, the coalition led by his Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) party held only three of the 225 seats in parliament, prompting Dissanayake to dissolve the legislature and call a general election for Nov. 14.

Rio Tinto announces takeover approach for Arcadium Lithium - Nikkei Asia CANBERRA -- Rio Tinto on Monday said that it has approached U.S and Australia-listed Arcadium Lithium about a potential takeover bid, highlighting the Anglo-Australian mining giant's enthusiasm for the key battery material.Rio has "made an approach to Arcadium Lithium regarding a potential acquisition of Arcadium Lithium by Rio Tinto," Rio said in a statement. "The approach is non-binding and there is no certainty that any transaction will be agreed to or will proceed."

Osaka airport finds room for 15m more flyers by shortening lines - Nikkei Asia OSAKA -- Kansai International Airport in Osaka prefecture is in the final stretch of a renovation designed to better accommodate Japan's influx of international travelers, with 5% to 10% more people expected to use the airport next year.From April to August this year, Kansai International Airport received 10 million international passengers, recovering to 92.3% of its 2019 traffic, according to the airport's operator, Kansai Airports. The company expects to handle 25 million passengers in the whole year.

Yen weakens to 149 level after strong U.S. jobs report - Nikkei Asia TOKYO -- The yen weakened to the 149 level against the dollar for the first time since mid-August on Monday, further extending its fall from when it depreciated last week after a strong U.S. job report.The yen traded at around 149.10 earlier in the morning, its lowest since mid-August, falling 1.9% from Friday. The Japanese currency has pared some losses since then, rising to the 148 level, but still remained weaker compared to Friday.
