Hitachi launches AI-powered railway maintenance service with Nvidia Hitachi Ltd. has launched a new railway maintenance service using the artificial intelligence technology of U.S. semiconductor giant Nvidia Corp., seeking to attract railway operators worldwide. HMAX, showcased in late September at the InnoTrans 2024 railway technology trade fair in Berlin, uses cameras and sensors mounted on trains to gather operational data, which AI analyzes to detect abnormalities and predict the best timing for replacing parts. Vietnam Q3 GDP growth rockets 7.4%, highest in 2 years - Nikkei Asia HO CHI MINH CITY -- Vietnam's economy expanded 7.4% in the third quarter from a year earlier, state data showed on Sunday, exceeding the 6.93% growth of the prior three months and defying expectations after the worst typhoon to hit the nation in 70 years halted many business operations.The gross domestic product data released by the General Statistics Office marks the biggest quarterly jump since a 13.7% rate seen in the third quarter of 2022, which snapped back sharply from the coronavirus pandemic.

FOCUS: Northern Marianas seeks to revive tourism amid stopped China flights The Northern Mariana Islands, a U.S. territory in the Pacific, is struggling to revive its main tourism industry to pre-COVID levels three years after the lifting of travel restrictions, amid suspended direct flights from mainland China due to an air travel dispute with the United States. While the number of tourists to Saipan and other islands in the self-governing territory is recovering, largely due to the return of South Korean visitors, its tourism authority reports that the number of visitors in fiscal 2023 was only 46 percent of the level seen in fiscal 2019, before the pandemic.
