Japan Tobacco still on the hunt for M&As after Vector deal, CFO says - Nikkei Asia TOKYO -- Japan Tobacco will not hesitate to pursue new merger and acquisition deals after it acquires Liggett Group parent Vector Group, the fourth-largest cigarette company in the U.S., JT Chief Financial Officer Hiromasa Furukawa told Nikkei.JT announced the $2.4 billion Vector deal in August as it doubles down on the cigarette market, which it considers a stable driver of growth despite falling sales and other headwinds.

Blinken dismisses China's Ukraine peace plan over support for Russia - Nikkei Asia WASHINGTON -- U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken pushed back on China's latest proposal for peace between Russia and Ukraine, saying that Beijing cannot call for an end to the war while simultaneously supplying dual-use components that serve Moscow's war effort.Blinken spoke to reporters on Friday after meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. Earlier in the day, China and Brazil had convened a gathering of 17 developing countries to discuss an end to the war in Ukraine. Their proposals include the need to prevent an escalation, to avoid the use of weapons of mass destruction, and to prevent attacks on nuclear power plants.

It is the last place on Earth where you would expect to find a luxury designer hotel. But the Shinta Mani Mustang, a 29-suite luxury property that opened in August 2023, has made the remote town a destination for the discerning.The hotel, designed by the well-known American architect and interior designer Bill Bensley, offers luxurious rooms furnished with Tibetan antiques and fine art and craft pieces, along with wellness treatments and top-tier dining. The price is $1,800 per person per night (for a minimum of five nights) -- a tariff that would have shocked the hippie adventurers who flocked to Kathmandu in the 1970s, paving a path that quickly turned Nepal into a prime destination for Western backpackers.
