Nintendo museum in Kyoto unveiled with iconic games ahead of opening Nintendo Co. on Wednesday unveiled its museum ahead of next week's opening, showcasing iconic video games that have captivated fans over its long history, while offering visitors interactive experiences like playing games using giant controllers. The Nintendo Museum will open on Oct. 2 in Uji, Kyoto Prefecture, featuring nostalgic video game consoles such as Family Computer, known as Nintendo Entertainment System abroad, and Nintendo DS, as well as packages of past hit game software titles. Tennis: World No. 8 Hurkacz advances to Japan Open 2nd round Second-seeded Hubert Hurkacz of Poland outlasted Marcos Giron of the United States 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-4 in the men's singles first round at the Japan Open tennis championships Wednesday. Ishiba, Koizumi, Takaichi lead Japan PM race, set stage for runoff The next leader of Japan's ruling party, and by extension, the prime minister, will be either former defense chief Shigeru Ishiba, rising star and youngest contender Shinjiro Koizumi or economic security minister Sanae Takaichi, according to a Kyodo News tally and analysis on Wednesday. With the three contenders running neck and neck in the Liberal Democratic Party's presidential election, no clear winner is expected to emerge in the first round of voting on Friday. No flying taxi rides at Osaka Expo as certification delay drags on - Nikkei Asia OSAKA -- Japan Airlines and ANA Holdings have scrapped plans for commercial flying taxi services at next year's World Expo in Osaka owing to delays in safety reviews, in effect grounding what was set to be one of the main attractions.The two join Japanese trading company Marubeni and Japan-based startup SkyDrive in cancelling plans to offer taxi flights with passengers aboard. All four planned operators have now pulled out.

Vietnam's FPT eyes back-end chip production with 10,000 workers - Nikkei Asia HANOI -- Leading Vietnamese tech company FPT will enter semiconductor back-end processing, where chips are assembled and tested, planning to boost related personnel to 10,000 by 2030, Nikkei has learned.The massive increase in semiconductor personnel specializing in circuit design and production technology -- a fiftyfold increase from the current 200 -- is expected to help the company develop a business where it not only designs chips, but also takes on tasks from other chip companies and does work at clients' factories.

China's market share in key EV battery components tops 80% - Nikkei Asia TOKYO -- Chinese companies accounted for over 80% of global shipments of key lithium-ion battery components in 2023, expanding their footprint further up battery supply chains on strong electric vehicle sales in the country.Lithium-ion batteries are composed of four main parts: cathodes, anodes, electrolytes and separators. Chinese businesses held an 89.4% market share by volume for cathodes, 93.5% for anodes, 87.4% for separators and 85% for electrolytes, Tokyo-based Yano Research Institute reports.
