Bessent says 90-day tariff pause could be extended for key partners The United States could extend a 90-day pause on the implementation of steep tariffs on goods from its major trading partners if they continue to negotiate "in good faith," U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Wednesday. "It is highly likely that those countries -- or trading blocs as is the case with the EU -- who are negotiating in good faith, we will roll the date forward to continue the good-faith negotiations," Bessent said during a congressional hearing. Japan remains 118th in 2025 gender gap report, worst among G7 Japan remained at 118th among 148 countries in the gender gap rankings in 2025, still worst among the Group of Seven nations, affected by poor political participation by women, the World Economic Forum said Thursday. The report by the Swiss think tank showed Japan improved women's participation in the economic arena, but ranked 125th in political empowerment, reflecting how few female government ministers it has and the fact the country has never had a female prime minister. U.S. expert posts satellite image of suspected North Korea nuke facility A U.S. nuclear weapons expert has released satellite images of what is believed to be a new uranium enrichment facility under construction in Yongbyon in North Korea's northwest, likely the same location flagged earlier this week by the chief of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
