Nikkei stock index ends down 4% after more U.S. tariffs enforced The Nikkei stock index ended down nearly 4 percent Wednesday, retreating from the previous day's sharp rebound, as selling accelerated on fears of an economic slowdown following the United States imposition of additional country-specific tariffs, including on Japan. The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average tumbled 1,298.55 points, or 3.93 percent, from Tuesday to 31,714.03. The broader Topix index finished 82.69 points, or 3.40 percent, lower at 2,349.33. Baseball: Ex-Dragons star Blanco dies in Dominican Republic roof collapse Tony Blanco, the 2009 Central League home run and RBI champion in his first season with Japan's Chunichi Dragons, died after a roof collapsed at a nightclub in the Dominican Republic capital, local reports said Tuesday. At least 98 people died, and 160 were injured during the incident in Santo Domingo, according to The Associated Press. Japan asks U.S. to drop reciprocal tariffs, calls them regrettable Japan has conveyed its "extreme regret" over the reciprocal tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump, urging Washington to retract them, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi said Wednesday.
