Urgent manhunt for Kentucky highway shooter There’s an urgent manhunt in Kentucky for an alleged “armed and dangerous” suspect accused of firing into cars on a major highway Saturday night. Five people were seriously injured and nine vehicles were shot at. The suspect is still on the run. NBC News’ Priya Sridhar has the latest.

LDP-backed candidate wins Ginowan mayor election in Okinawa The candidate backed by the ruling Liberal Democratic Party won Sunday's mayoral election in Ginowan, a city in the southern Japan prefecture of Okinawa that hosts a U.S. military base at the heart of controversy over its relocation within Okinawa. Atsushi Sakima, 60, served as mayor from 2012 to 2018. He backs the closure of U.S. Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, located in a crowded residential part of the city, and its move to the less populated coastal district of Henoko in Nago, in line with former Mayor Masanori Matsugawa, whose sudden death in July triggered the vote. Paris Paralympics close with dancing in the rain The Paris Paralympics officially ended Sunday in true Parisian style despite rainfall, with the Stade de France national stadium coming alive in an energetic tribute to the city's dance music scene. The ceremony capped off the 12-day mega event for athletes with disabilities, hailed the "most spectacular games ever" by International Paralympic Committee President Andrew Parsons, with the over 80,000-seat stadium at around 95 percent capacity. China's consumer prices rise at faster pace in August - Nikkei Asia BEIJING (Reuters) -- China's consumer prices accelerated in August to the fastest pace in half a year due to the higher costs of food from weather disruptions, while producer price deflation worsened, as Beijing maintained efforts to reinvigorate domestic demand.A sputtering start in the second half is mounting pressure on the world's second-largest economy to roll out more policies amid a prolonged housing downturn, persistent joblessness, debt woes and rising trade tensions.The consumer price index (CPI) rose 0.6% from a year earlier last month, versus a 0.5% rise in July, data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) showed on Monday, but less than a 0.7% increase forecast in a Reuters poll of economists.

Japanese stocks slide after Wall Street falls on U.S. economy worries - Nikkei Asia TOKYO -- Japan's benchmark stock index fell more than 3% in early trading on Monday before paring losses, following Wall Street lower amid nagging concerns over the outlook for the U.S economy after mixed jobs data.The Nikkei Stock Average declined as much as 1,143.6 points, or 3.1%, soon after the open, and was down 778.15 points, or 2.1%, to 35,613.32 at the close of the morning session.
