Plane with 64 aboard collides with military chopper near Washington A passenger plane with 64 aboard crashed Wednesday night into a river after colliding with a military helicopter in midair near a busy airport just outside of Washington, authorities said, with fatalities expected despite an ongoing search-and-rescue operation in the frigid water. The accident occurred when American Airlines flight 5342 from Wichita, Kansas, was approaching Reagan national airport around 9 p.m., according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
